Ready, Set, Kindergarten!
The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) successfully completed the final round of Ready, Set, Kindergarten! (RSK) for the summer.
RSK was a 10-week program designed to prepare children ages 3 to 5 for kindergarten by exploring various topics in science, art, and interpersonal skills. The goal was to ensure a smooth transition into kindergarten. The program took place weekly at all ten library branches, with each week focusing on a different topic. Over the course of three different cycles—totaling 30 weeks of kindergarten prep—RSK provided children with numerous opportunities for learning. The program was free, allowing patrons to attend as many classes as they wished. Throughout these 30 weeks, 3,391 participants took part in the fun and educational activities!
Each class offered a dynamic learning experience featuring storytimes, songs, and hands-on activities. These sessions allowed children to learn and practice essential skills in an engaging environment. At the end of each class, parents could check out School Readiness Kits to reinforce what was covered in the session. Additionally, parents were encouraged to visit the library’s website to download weekly tip sheets, complete with book, song, and activity recommendations to complement each lesson.
RSK was funded by an FY 2024 LSTA Strengthening Youth and Family grant and the Huntsville-Madison County Library Foundation’s annual Love Your Library fundraising campaign.
HMCPL is proud to offer events like RSK at no cost to the community. In line with our mission, RSK empowers parents, caregivers, and our youngest patrons by providing the tools and safe spaces they need to explore new ideas, create their own futures, and connect with the community.
