10 Movies Available on Hoopla Part V:

A New Beginning

The Stranger’s Gundown- 1974- Confederate officers who betrayed their company receive a fistful of justice as meted out by the ghost-like Django. Stars Anthony Steffen as Django, one of my favorite Euro Western stars.

American Mary- 2012- The promise of easy money sends med student Mary into the world of “underground surgeries.” Equally twisted and demented. From the Soska sisters, Jen and Sylvia.

Newly Added.

Metal Tornado- 2011- Before Sharknado…Metal Tornado! With Lou Diamond Phillips. Newly Added.

Carrie- 1976- Prom is not always all that it is cracked up to be. Just ask Carrie White. Classic mousey student verses the mean kids revenge flick. Based on Stephen King’s first novel. The 2002 TV remake, which is a surprisingly good adaptation of the source novel, is also available.

C.H.O.M.P.S. -1979- More robot dog fun, with Valerie Bertinelli, Red Buttons, Wesley Eure and Chuck McCann. C.H.O.M.P.S. stands for Canine Home Protection System. If you were a kid in the ‘70s and early ‘80s, before VHS, before Internet, before Disney streaming, your mom would take you to see something like this, or Herbie Goes Bananas.

Meatballs- 1979- While your younger siblings were stuck watching C.H.O.M.P.S., all the cool kids were spending the summer with Bill Murray and the Counselors in Training at Camp North Star. A Classic.

The Void- 2017- Trippy horror/sci-fi flick plays like a retro nod to classic John Carpenter movies like The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, Prince of Darkness and Halloween II, with a twist of Lovecraft. Disturbing fun for horror fans.

Brawl in Cell Block 99- 2017- Violent grindhouse actioner has Vince Vaughn stuck in prison, fighting for the safety of his pregnant wife on the outside. With Don Johnson.

Cube- 1998- Tense sci-fi/chiller about random people waking up in a giant puzzle box. Challenging and nerve-wracking suspense. Do you have what it takes to beat the Cube? The sequel (2003) and prequel (2004) are also available.

John Dies at the End- 2012- Does he? You can watch this movie ten times and never see the same movie twice. Based on the novel by David Wong. From Don Coscarelli, the director of Phantasm (1979), The Beastmaster (1982) and Bubba Ho-Tep (2002).

Bonus CD

Flash Gordon Soundtrack- 1980- While the classic 1980 sci-fi adventure with Sam Jones as Flash Gordon is not currently available on Hoopla, the amazing, fantastic soundtrack by QUEEN is! If you can’t watch the movie, you can live the soundtrack!
