Halloween Drive-in Double Features #2

We’re in full swing of the spooky season and well into October. I’ve watched a little better than one film a day, so far. How about you? Are you keeping up with one scary movie a day? If not, think of the health benefits. Horror movies get your pulse really soaring and your heart really beating. Your blood circulates faster and your sweat glands get a good workout too. In my humble opinion, watching horror movies is better than going to the gym!

Halloween Horror Flicks:

Stephen King Theater

Halloween and horror movies based on books by Stephen King have been a Halloween tradition in my home since the early days of VHS. There is nothing like lining up a stack of movies based on stories by King Stephen, turning down the lights and letting the creeps run wild. Grab some popcorn, a bowl of candy and let’s stay up until the witching hour with the King of Horror.

In this week’s episode of Two Librarians Walk Into A Shelf, Michelle and Rob had the opportunity to discuss spooky favorites, both old and new, with bestselling author Grady Hendrix. You might remember back to Episode 1 of the podcast in which a discussion of all things Grady Hendrix was had. Clearly, your podcast hosts were thrilled to get a chance to talk horror and its current popularity with Mr. Hendrix.

Hendrix then left us with some book recommendations to check out for people who might be new to the horror genre, and some favorite spooky season movies as well.

Italian Chills and Thrills for Halloween

At one time, a great deal of films came into the United States for distribution to drive-ins from all over the world. Italy was one of the major countries to export genre films for double and triple features at ozoners across the country. For decades, Italian films of all types graced the giant outdoor screens, as well as hardtops, from the mid '50s through the early ‘80s, but where all but gone by the mid ‘90s.

Drive-In Double Features #4

Drive-in season is still in full swing. Run to your Kitchen Snack Bar for some ice cold beverages, maybe a piping hot slice of pizza or a pit cooked B-B-Q sandwich, and of course, popcorn and candy or delicious ice cream. The show is about to begin! (Remember, I’m just putting two movies together for the double features, there is no double feature option on Hoopla.)
