Nicolas Cage-O-Rama-A-Thon
As I have been going through Hoopla’s movie library, the one constant I keep seeing is Nicolas Cage’s face on movie after movie, either in close-up or with an explosion behind him, sometimes both. It made me wonder, “Is there an all Nicolas Cage 10 movie list available on Hoopla?” Yes, my friends. Yes, there is.
10 Movies available on Hoopla Part 6:
Season of the Witch
The Crow- 1994- Classic comic book adaptation about avenging angel Eric Draven. A comic adaptation with muscle. With Brandon Lee. The first of the not-so-great sequels is also available.
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro- An amazingly prolific author, Yarbro began with the first of the Charles Spotted mystery series, Ogilvie, Tallant & Moon in 1976. She has written numerous series including historical mystery/ghost (Chesterton Holte, Gentleman Haunt series), western (Jason Russell series), historical horror (The Saint-Germain Cycle), fantasy (book 2 in the Merchant Prince series) science-fiction (book four in the Crisis of Empire series) and dozens of novels and short stories, written under her own and various pen names. In 2009 she won the Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement. For me, I became acquainted with Yarbro’s work with her 1980 novelization for the 1981 zombie thriller Dead & Buried.

A New Beginning
The Stranger’s Gundown- 1974- Confederate officers who betrayed their company receive a fistful of justice as meted out by the ghost-like Django. Stars Anthony Steffen as Django, one of my favorite Euro Western stars.
10 Movies Available on Hoopla- The Final Chapter
The Endless Summer- 1965- Classic documentary about surfers scouring the world for the perfect wave.
10 Movies available on Hoopla III: The Domination
Rabid- 2019- The gruesome horror thriller remake of David Cronenberg's horror classic about a vampire virus during Christmas from the Soska Sisters. (Cronenberg’s 1977 original is also available.)
Joe Lansdale- With his distinctive East Texan knack for storytelling, once you start a Lansdale book you suddenly realize you forgot to pick the kids up from school because you lost track of time, so engrossed in the story Joe is telling. For decades Lansdale has been producing some of the finest fiction, writing in the mystery, crime, horror, science-fiction and western genres, and always with a wicked sense of humor. His stories have been adapted into comics, TV and films. His work served as the basis for the Hap and Leonard series (2016 – 2018) as well as the films Bubba Ho-Tep (2002) and Cold in July (2014).

By Robert Freese
More wild, weird films available on Hoopla. (Now with 100% more links!)
1. Silent Running- 1972- Bruce Dern is a space botanist willing to do whatever it takes to save his space forests with his three robot helpers, Heuy, Louie & Dewey. Amazing special effects and a folksy main theme by Joan Baez. Directed by Douglas Trumbull.
Robert Bloch- Bloch was an author of mystery, crime, horror and science-fiction. His fiction is spiked with his sinister sense of humor and surprise twist-endings. He also wrote for films and television. Most modern writers credit Bloch with being an early inspiration in their lives. If you only know Norman Bates from Alfred Hitchcock’s film Psycho, it’s safe to say you don’t know Norman Bates. Hoopla will get you caught up with Bloch’s original Psycho trilogy. (For the record, Psycho II was the first book that kept me up all night reading because I had to find out how it ended.)
