True Story

We know all about the Mercury Seven astronauts, but what about the women they left Earthbound? This enthralling biography of the "Astronaut wives" brings to light the real lives, struggles, and heartache that shadowed the Life magazine covers, White House visits, and star turns. The Astronaut Wives Club should be a part of any reading about America's Space Race.

Let a Train Take You Somewhere New

The year 2020 has presented a lot to us. Between Netflix's documentary hit Tiger King, a pandemic, quarantining due to the pandemic, talk of murder hornets, postponement of the Olympics, racial justice movements (please and thank you), sky-rocketed unemployment, AHHHHH! we have endured and still dealing with quite a bit. However, I am a glass half full kind of person, so I believe we will get through this and be stronger because of it.

In the meantime, I have to read to help me cope. So, I'm sharing my list of "next reads" and recommended reads. Hope you enjoy!

Last Tuesday (June 04, 2019), a special guest joined us for toddler storytime at the Downtown Huntsville Library! Meet Big Z, Zaxby's giant but gentle chicken mascot: 

Big Z has been known to stop by storytimes on occasion. He loves interacting with the kids - especially if he can show off his Chicken Dance - and he always fills his wings with generous gifts! 

Our June Librarian Book Club pick is the highly-anticipated domestic suspense, "The First Mistake" by Sandie Jones.

Summer reading is the most important thing we do at the library. It develops future readers who also become future library users!

This summer, teens at five HMCPL branches turned the amp up to 11 and participated in some rockin' programs at the library.

Summertime at the library is exciting! We like to shake things up a little as the weather gets warmer and offer many entertainment, educational and cultural enrichment opportunities for our patrons. There is truly something for everyone at the library. 

Our librarians compiled a list of the top 10 reasons to visit your library this summer:

• Live music in the air conditioning..… Our indoor concert series is one of the most popular in town. And it happens every other Tuesday through September.

The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library system is proving our 2018 summer reading theme, "Libraries Rock," is very true. Starting June 4, we are kicking off two months of engaging activities and programs, while encouraging every child in Madison County to avoid the summer slide and read with us. Last year, we saw a record number of summer reading participants- 32,957 to be exact!
