The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library announced today that HATCH, Huntsville’s new hospitality workforce training program, will run a full service café at the new South Huntsville Public Library, opening next month.

Library Board of Directors Hires Cindy Hewitt to lead the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library System

 

The Board of Directors for the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) voted during its July meeting to hire Cindy Hewitt to lead the 10-branch library system as the new Executive Director. Hewitt has been the Interim Executive Director since October 2020, when Laurel Best retired after 12 years.

 

Introducing the new North Huntsville Library

The new North Huntsville Library is now open!

The City of Huntsville debuted its latest public amenity on Sparkman Drive to benefit residents living in North Huntsville.  

Mayor Tommy Battle and District 1 Council Member Devyn Keith hosted a ribbon-cutting on April 7 to open the Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center, an eleven-acre campus featuring the new North Huntsville Library and recreation facilities. The $11 million project was funded by the City of Huntsville and donations from private and government partners.  

“We are so glad to be investing in such a worthy project for our community,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “Transforming this site and creating live, learn and play facilities are among the best ways we enhance quality of life.”

Library’s outreach services play role in connecting services to communities

 

The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) unveiled its new Outreach vehicle, thanks to a funding gift from Madison County Commission Chairman Dale W. Strong. The new van joins the Bookmobile in the Library’s fleet of vehicles that brings Library services to the community.

Voting Services at your Library

Did you know that the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) offers certain voting services at their 11 locations? Here is a breakdown on how the Library can help you navigate the voting process:

Voter Registration

Available at all 11 locations of the HMCPL, you can fill out a paper registration form and our librarians will deliver them to the Madison County Courthouse. There are deadlines to this that are important if you chose to register this way. 

Executive Director Laurel Best to Retire

After a 45 year career in public libraries, The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) Executive Director Laurel Best is retiring at the end of September. Laurel has been with the HMCPL system for 12 years. She announced her plans to retire to the library staff and board of directors in July.

 

Library Foundation receives joint donation as demand for children’s print books soar amid pandemic

The Huntsville Library Foundation (HLF) announced today that Dynetics and Mayor Battle’s Book Club donated $15,000 each to its Launchpad to Literacy Fund. The fund will purchase children’s print books for the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL). 

Launchpad to Literacy Fund was developed after the Library faced a huge increase in demand for children’s print books since the pandemic, as more children are spending time and learning at home.
