Magical World of the Library
Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) wrapped up Summer Reading with their third annual Harry Potter Birthday Celebration!
Every year at the end of July, the Downtown Huntsville Public Library invites patrons to celebrate the magical world of Harry Potter. Library employees don costumes and transform the Youth Services area into a Harry Potter extravaganza. Every year, community partners volunteer to help pull it off. This year, 29 volunteers from Mazda Toyota Manufacturing participated. With their combined efforts, the Downtown Huntsville Public Library welcomed 327 patrons!
Patrons arrived dressed in their Hogwarts best, ready to participate in all the magical activities. They could join a bingo game, grab a snack, try their hand at an escape room, test their knowledge during trivia, settle in to watch a movie, or craft miniature broomsticks and ornaments. While patrons hopped from activity to activity, they searched for hidden artifacts around the library. The celebration was capped off with a prize drawing and costume contest, where prizes such as books, calligraphy supplies, LEGO sets, and figurines were awarded to the winners!
Although the Harry Potter Celebration took place in the Youth Services area, the event truly was for everyone. Patrons of all ages enjoyed getting sorted into their Hogwarts House and lined up to receive their custom buttons. Everyone could enter the drawing or participate in the costume contest for a chance to win one of the prizes. This library program was a celebration where everyone could join the fun!
HMCPL was overjoyed to provide this meaningful opportunity for members of the community to gather, share experiences, and make connections.
