Who Exactly is The Sandman? - A Brief History
The upcoming series "The Sandman" is based on the series of comics written by acclaimed writer Neil Gaiman, though his incarnation of the Sandman character wasn't the first.

With the new year, the American Library Association (ALA) has released the 2021 Youth Media Awards which recognizes youth and young adult books for outstanding achievement based on certain criteria, below I've listed the awards winners and when available linked the titles we have currently in the library catalog. The John Newbery Award is named after an 18th century British bookseller and given annually for "the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children."
Black History Month is a great reason to explore new books to read and broaden your horizons. Over the past several years I've built the library's adult graphics collection with a number of voices, perspectives and cultural representations. In honor of this month, I've curated some of my favorite titles either by black creators, or featuring black characters or non-fiction titles about black history.
Thanksgiving is the time of year when our thoughts should turn to togetherness, unity, and appreciation for each other and our love towards our family and friends. It's a great time to share these ideas with your kids and explore what it means to be a kid and thoughtful person and to help out and celebrate the season I've put together a list of 30 books from our Youth Services collection that show off these ideas of thankfulness, empathy and kindness:

It's just like R.L. Stine always says at the start of his Goosebumps books, "Reader beware...you're in for a scare!" For October this year I've selected thirty one books, one for each day of the month, from our Youth Services collection- ranging from board books all the way to young adult novels! Below you'll find some of my favorite books to read or read to your favorite ghosts and goblins, broken down by age range:

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month I wanted to showcase some of the amazing Hispanic comic creators that we have available in print in our adult graphics collection system wide as well as digital editions that are available through Hoopla which you can also access with your library card. There's a huge amount of talented creators in the industry but I limited it to some of my personal favorite stories (I do have a soft spot for silver/bronze age comics) and I hope you'll find some new some titles to explore:
National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15th to October 15th and is a time when the United States celebrates the contributions and influences of Hispanic Americans have made to the history and culture of the country. It's a wonderful opportunity to teach your children about your own Hispanic roots or to learn about another culture. I was exposed to lots of great Mexican art, music, and culture growing up in California and have put together some suggests to share beyond.
